With an emphasis on Human Biology, the Cambridge IGCSE Biology syllabus helps students understand the living world we are part of, and take an informed interest in Science and scientific developments. Studying Biology allows students to understand themselves on the inside and the outside, enjoy the natural environment and work with nature in a sustainable manner.

This subject also enables learners to gain insight into some of the global issues facing Mankind diseases, poverty, climate change…. Finally the study of Biology helps students make informed decisions regarding personal health as well as environmentally friendly lifestyles.

Students gain an understanding of the basic principles of Biology through a mix of theoretical and practical studies.

The syllabus focuses mainly on Human Biology but students will also study about plants and ecology. The main topics include: Global Perspectives, as the name indicates, allows students to explore the world around them from a global, local and personal point of view. They are able to delve into current issues and hypothesise possible scenarios of what might happen if societies continue as they do now as well as develop ways and methods to solve or expand on the possibilities.

The course also focuses on the learning of research, collaboration and presentation skills. Students are encouraged to do public speaking in a safe and comfortable environment among their peers and teachers.

They will be given chances to explore and expand their leadership skills and their ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team. These skills have a long-term benefit on students as it prepares them for institutions of higher learning and also encourages the pursuit of knowledge and understanding.

They will examine a range of global issues from a variety of different perspectives, drawing on a selection of subjects. Possible topics of study would include law and criminality, humans and other species, sport and recreation and conflict and peace.
